ABC World News Tonight With Diane Sawyer
Had a great show on June 28, 2010. In a special on Avandia, a diabetes drug from Glaxo Smith Kline, it was pointed out that use of this drug according to studies, can cause an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and even death.

One of the studies pointed out that of every 37 people that were treated with this drug 1 person will have a heart attack.

You might want to check with your physician and/or attorney to see if this increased risk is acceptable considering the possible benefits of the drug on diabetes.

One individual interviewed on the news program stated that the drug "blew the fromt wall of (his) heart out".

The 2009 sales of Avandia are reported to have been $1,200,000,000.00. Many doctors have been recommending this drug as a preferred treatment for diabetes.

One test reports a 25% increase in heart failure, a 27% increase in stroke and a 14% increase in death in seniors that are taking the drug.

A second study shows up to a 39% increased risk of heart attack in those folks taking this drug.

An increased LDL cholesterol level was also reported.

On it's behalf, Glaxo Smith Kline says "Avandia does not increase the overall risk of heart attack, stroke, or death."
